Don’t Be Basic – Bumbershoot 2014

Check Bumbershoot off of my Seattle To-Do List. But before I got here, it was hard trying to figure out what to wear to an eclectic music festival in the heart of the Emerald City.

I’ve been playing a lot with mixed prints as of late. A floral snapback, green hair, plaid, and fringe. Who am I?! I’m a chick who’s dressing trendy without breaking the bank.

Buying fashionable pieces doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. My rule of thumb: Invest in basic pieces because you’ll wear them through different trends and seasons. Do not blow a ton of cash on trends that you know will only last a season or two. Thankfully I followed my own rules because after washing this “Don’t Be Basic” shirt just once, it shrunk and is now a lounge around the house top.

Another tip that I mentioned in the Behind The Scenes post last week that bears repeating: Instead of hiding the areas you’re insecure about, highlight them! I’m more-than-words self conscious about my midsection. Instead of wearing an oversized shirt that makes you look even bigger, why not tie a fun plaid or flannel shirt around your waist? It’s fashionable and helps define your body’s shape. Go ahead, give it a try!
