IPSY vs. Birchbox – July & August 2014

Summer has been crazy! Working, traveling, traveling for work, working for travel. You get the idea. It’s time to catch up on one of my favorite posts of the month. The battle of the subscription boxes!

If you don’t know, for $10 a month IPSY sends 4-5 beauty products (think make-up, hair, lotions, etc.) that are customized just for you and delivered in a super cute GLAM BAG.

Here’s what came in my July bag:

IPSY - July

bareMinerals – READY Eyeshadow 2.0: Meh. It’s a super small sample for colors I’m not very excited about. Great brand but just meh.

Elizabeth Mott – Tints & Sass: This is a full size product and retails for $22. It’s very similar to Benefit’s Benetint

Pur~lisse – Pur~Protect SPF 30: Enough with the SPF! This sample is barely enough to cover A butt cheek let alone two.

Marrakesh Endz: The hair treatment is very needed considering I’ve put my hair through a lot over the past few months. It’s filled with Argan Oil, Hemp Seed Oil and other ingredients that meant to seal and repair split ends. Win!

Pur Minerals – Big Look Waterproof Mascara: I wasn’t big on waterproof mascara but just a few days ago, I got tips from country stars Maddie & Tae on perfect curled country lashes. Use one coat of waterproof mascara on your peepers because it’ll hold much like gel does in your hair.

Now on to August’s IPSY bag:

IPSY - August

Urban Decay – Perversion Mascara: Yes, the sample size is small but WOW! This mascara is great! My lashes look full and plush. I might just purchase the full size product. I’m impressed.

Mongongo Lip Conditioner: Another meh product. I have a drawer filled with chapstick that I’ll never use.

Klorane – Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk: I have been obsessed with dry shampoo ever since dying my hair green! (omg. I never did a post on it did I?! I’ll get on that…stat!) In order to preserve the color I haven’t been washing it nearly as much so I’ve been living on dry shampoo.

Lord & Berry – Silk Kajal Kohl Eye Pencil: Ever since subscribing to these boxes, I haven’t had to purchase one eye liner. They’re always in one box or another which some people are annoyed by but I dig it!

Manna Kadar – Sheer Glo: This highlighter, when used alone, doesn’t do much. I’ve been mixing it with my foundation and it adds the slightest glow which I like.

Now on to July’s Birchbox:

Birchbox - July

Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect: I’m a blow dryer addict so this is great to put on your tresses before you blast them with heat.

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil: O-M-G! I’m in LOOOOOVE! This was worth the cost of the whole box. The purple color is indescribably amazing especially for fall. I WILL be buying this product over and over again. This is exactly why I love subscription boxes! You discover products you never would have before.

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel: Granted I have not tried this yet but I’m looking forward to it. A peel without the cost of a high end spa? I’ll take it.

Harvey Prince Hello Body Cream: Gross. Gross. And Gross. This smell is disgusting.

100% Pure Gingerade Shower Gel: Stop it with the foil packets. I won’t take these with me to travel and this is barely a big enough sample to wash my armpits.

Let’s hope August’s Birchbox is a little bit better…

Birchbox - August
Noir Cosmetics Long-Wear Eyeliner: Another eyeliner to add to the collection!

SeaRX Birch Sap Moisturizing Lotion: Umm I don’t think this is for my face but this sample size is hardly enough to lather up my hands.

Dr. Jart+ PORE MEDIC Pore Minish Primer: I love trying out primer’s because I haven’t found one I’m completely sold one. This is a small sample but the stuff works!

Neil George Shampoo & Conditioner: Yuck. The smell is icky and there’s no way in hell I’m trying it. Pass.

I love IPSY but Birchbox has a WAY better reward system. You can’t beat IPSY’s customer service and Birchbox has higher end products (although smaller samples.) For $10 a month, I think they’re both worth a shot until you decide which one you want to keep.

Even when you say you’re having a bad day, or are upset about something, etc…you always find a way to make me laugh and wish you were my friend in real life lol! 1. I ordered ipsy and ordered my daughter birchbox she got hers right away while I continue to be on wait list. Worst part is it says if I refer a friend who subscribes or I wait an wait ? What I tried to pay why are they worried about skipping me and adding another customer they can satisfy?
