Unboxing: IPSY February 2015

It’s my favorite time of the month! I love when the bright pink envelope from IPSY shows up in my mailbox. If you don’t know, for $10 a month IPSY sends 4-5 beauty products (think make-up, hair, lotions, etc.) that are customized just for you and delivered in a super cute GLAM BAG. Here’s what was in my February bag…

Ellen Tailor IPSY February 2015NYX Cosmetics – Slim Eye Pencil in Gold – NYX is my favorite drugstore brand of all time! A majority of my lip collection is this brand. I’ve tried many of their products but have yet to try any of there eyeliners so I’m excited to get this. I especially like that it’s in a color other than black. Fun! Full Size: $3.50

City Color Cosmetics Creamy Lip Stain in Flirtini – I absolutely did not think I was going to like this. The color is more of a mauve, rich pink that’s a perfect transition color from winter to summer. And it smells yummy! What a pleasant surprise. Full Size: $4.99

ModelCo BLUSH Cheek Powder in Peach Bellini – My favorite YouTubers rave about this brand and I’m finally excited to try it. The color is a peachy pink that really compliments my skin tone. Full Size: $22

Luxie Beauty Large Angled Face BrushThe more brushes the better because I’m honestly too lazy to wash them. #SorryNotSorry I’ll be using this to contour with powdered bronzers. This brand is also 100% Animal Cruelty Free. I can get down with that! Full Size: $16

GLAMGLOW BRIGHTMUD Eye Treatment This brand has been in my Glam Bag in the past and I always look forward to trying more. IPSY served up not one, but two treatments that promises to brighten, fight dark circles, lines and puffiness. Um hello! This is perfect for a morning radio co-host like me. Full Size: $69 for 12

All of this month’s products were full size. The cost of the bag was $10 but the value was six times more than that! IPSY is my favorite subscription box service and for $10 a month, I’d say it’s totally worth you trying it out, too! Sign up for IPSY here.

Unboxing: IPSY April 2014

So this blog was supposed to be more of a vlog BUT Birchbox messed it up. Or maybe I did. I subscribed for Birchbox after the month started so perhaps that’s why my shipment has been delayed. A video blog with first impressions of both IPSY and Birchbox will happen next month. Forgive me for the change of plans. I’m bummed but I digress.

For $10 a month, IPSY sends 4-5 beauty products (think make-up, hair, lotions, etc.) that are customized just for you and delivered in a super cute GLAM BAG. Here’s what came in my April bag:

Ellen Tailor April 2014 IPSY - 1

Initially, I was impressed! There’s a great variety of products this month. Everything from lips, to skin and nails. Let’s dive right into my favorite…eyes!

Ellen Tailor April 2014 IPSY - 3

The Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Eye Pencil just might be my favorite thing in this month’s GLAM BAG. I’m a huge fan of Urban Decay in general and recently fell in love with their 24/7 lip liner. While this isn’t a full size product, it’s a very generous sample. Yay! Full Size: $20

Ellen Tailor April 2014 IPSY - 2A girl can never have enough false eye lashes. These look like just the right pair for a night out or even a simple daytime look. Such a Tease “So Seductive” lashes are 100% handmade and reusable. Full Size: $3.99

Ellen Tailor April 2014 IPSY - 7

This has to be my least favorite product. Cailyn’s Tinted Lip Balm in the color “Apple Pink.” While I think the packaging is great and love that there’s a brush, the color does nothing for my olive complexion. I can appreciate that this is a full size product though! Full Size: $19.00

Ellen Tailor April 2014 IPSY - 5

Yay! Yay! Yay! I love products like this! I’ve got super dry skin and am always looking for some type of exfoliator. Without having to spend a ton of money at a spa, this Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion cream is fine by me! I can’t wait to slather this all over my filthy face. Full Size: $78

Ellen Tailor April 2014 IPSY - 4

Nail polish! Hooray!!! I love adding to my collection but can’t justify purchasing anymore so I let out an “EEK!” when I pulled this out of my GLAM BAGThe Rainbow Honey nail polish in Midnight Fountain is a holographic nail polish with iridescent glitters that swim around in a shimmery blue base. Full Size: $10

Ellen Tailor April 2014 IPSY - 6

IPSY offers a fun rewards program. There are various ways to earn IPSY points that can be used to redeem products like these Tokyo Milk Lip Balm’s. Salted Caramel and La Vie En Rose both smell wonderful. Full Size: $7 each

This isn’t my favorite GLAM BAG but I am still happy with it! If you’d like to sign up for your own IPSY subscription, which I highly suggest, then do so by clicking HERE.

Why I’m Not Opening My IPSY Bag…Yet

Normally I’m excited when I see this bright pink package in my mailbox but this month was different. I’ve been a strong supporter of IPSY for nearly a year now. If you don’t know, for $10 a month, IPSY sends 4-5 beauty products (think make-up, hair, lotions, etc.) that are customized just for you and delivered in a super cute GLAM BAG. This subscription box is very similar to Birchbox and many of you have asked which one I think is better. Unfortunately, I couldn’t answer that question until now.

In order to give a fair comparison between IPSY and Birchbox, I decided to subscribe to both boxes. Clearly my IPSY bag has already arrived. When Birchbox gets here I’ll unbox them and let you watch!

Ellen Tailor IPSY AprilMy favorite YouTube videos are monthly unboxing videos comparing the two and most times (spoiler alert) IPSY wins. That’s the reason I initially signed up for IPSY over Birchbox. I’m hoping to get my very own unboxing video up on my YouTube channel by Wednesday so stay tuned.

In the meantime, which do YOU prefer? Birchbox OR Ipsy?

Unboxing: IPSY March 2014

Another month, another IPSY bag! For $10 a month, IPSY sends 4-5 beauty products (think make-up, hair, lotions, etc.) that are customized just for you and delivered in a super cute GLAM BAG. Here’s what came in my March bag:

Ellen Tailor IPSY March 2014 - 1How cute is this month’s bag?! Fun, springy, and unique. I dig it. This month’s theme is “Destination Beauty” and I’m pretty content with my goodies.

Ellen Tailor IPSY March 2014 - 3

Nicole by OPI Roughles in “On What Grounds?” – This special collection is brand new for March 2014! I’m a sucker for nail polish so I’m always extra excited when I see a bottle in my bag. This is not a polish I’d normally buy despite liking the brand. I dig the color but I’m not quite sure about the texture. I applied a quick swatch on my thumb and the verdict is still out. It does come off fairly easy with remover unlike most textured polishes. This is why I dig IPSY, they introduce me to products outside of my comfort zone and this will be fun for spring. Full Size: $7.99

Ellen Tailor IPSY March 2014 - 2

bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready – We’ve been spoiled with many full size products in our bags so I suppose I shouldn’t be too disappointed in receiving this trial size lipstick. On the plus side, this is perfect for tossing in your clutch on a night out and the color is okay, too. Full Size: $18

Ellen Tailor IPSY March 2014 - 4

Be a Bombshell Eyeshadow Quad in Bora Bora – This isn’t the first time IPSY has included this brand in their bags and so far they’ve be unimpressive. However, this is the first time I’ve received their shadow and I’m excited to try it. I especially love the turquoise color that I’ll use as a liner. (TIP: Wet your brush and apply to the lash line to turn any shadow into a pretty liner!) Full Size: $16

Ellen Tailor IPSY March 2014 - 5

Klorane Smoothing and Relaxing Patches with Soothing Cornflower – This is what I was most excited about and this was also the biggest disappointment. These eyes patches claim to increase circulation and decrease signs of stress. Meh. I tried these and they did nothing. Full Size: $18

The two full sized products in this month’s bag totaled $24 which is more than twice the cost of the bag itself ($10)! Another month, another win! If you’d like to sign up for your own IPSY bag, which I highly suggest you do because it’s A-MAZING, click HERE.

Unboxing: IPSY February 2014

It’s my favorite time of month! It’s IPSY Day!!! If you don’t know, IPSY is a subscription box that costs $10 a month. 4-5 beauty products (think make-up, hair, lotions, etc.) are delivered to your door in a super cute GLAM BAG each month. Here’s what came in my February bag:

Ellen Tailor IPSY Unboxing February 2014

The picture doesn’t do the make-up bag justice. The outside is plain but the inside has a fun pink leopard print. Initially I was excited about what was inside. That was until I tried everything out. But first, the good…

Zoya Nail Polish in “Odette” – omg. This is the second bottle of Zoya polish I’ve received from IPSY and I’m OOOOOOBSESSED. The color is gorgeous, long lasting, and it’s even vegan friendly. Love that this is a full size bottle, too. Full Size: $9

Jesse’s Girl 9 Pan Eye Shadow Compact in “Tickled Pink” – I didn’t know this brand made eye shadows but I’m excited to give this palette a try. The colors seem really pigmented and not chalky. The true test will be whether or not it can last all day. Full Size: $3.99

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay – I’ve been testing out new skin care products and this was a great find. While I think this would work best for fighting oily skin, which I don’t have, I like the way it smells and makes my skin feel. Full Size: $24

The Meh

Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner in “Starlight” – I’m not a big fan of this metallic eyeliner trend. The more I think about it though, I’m actually kind of glad I got it. This pencil is perfect for the lower lash line. Don’t line your lower lash line with a dark color. It’ll only make your peepers look smaller! Instead, use a light color pencil to make your eyes pop. This is another full size product in this month’s bag. Yay! Full Size: $15

And now for the OH HELLLLLL NAW…

Ellen Tailor IPSY Unboxing February 2014ew. Ew. EW!

POP Beauty Plump Pout Mini in “Peony Petal” – I was stoked about the color and thought this would be great to carry along in my purse. That was until I opened it. What’s that STANK?! This stuff smells disgusting. Then I made the mistake of actually trying it on. If I had to imagine what rotting coconuts would taste like, this would be it. I’d pay money NOT to wear this. Gross. Full Size: $16

Update: I contacted Ipsy Cares about the poo-poo lip gloss. They were so nice and prompt with their response. They’re sending me a replacement product so I’ll make sure to post what it is once it arrives.

Despite the nasty lip gloss I’d say this month’s IPSY bag was a big win! The three full size products alone retail for $28 which is totally worth the $10 I spent on the entire bag. If you’d like to sign up for your own IPSY bag, which I highly suggest you do because it’s A-MAZING, click HERE.
